Filipino Burger Steak is beef burger patties drowned in a luscious mushroom gravy. Best eaten with steamed white rice. One of my mom’s specialties! 😋

Ingredients (16)

Burger Patties

Mushroom Gravy

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or container, add ground beef (1 lb), garlic powder (1 Tbsp), salt (1 tsp) and pepper (¼ tsp), egg (1), onions ( cup), and breadcrumbs ( cup) soaked in milk (¼ cup). Mix until combined.

  2. Divide into 4 and form into thick patties. Set aside.

  3. Heat a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add cooking oil (2 Tbsp) and pan-sear the patties for 2-3 minutes on both sides. Let it get a nice brown crust on the outside.

  4. Remove from heat and set aside

  5. To make the mushroom gravy, In the same pan, turn the heat down to low and melt butter (2 Tbsp).

  6. Add flour (2 Tbsp) and stir. Cook it until it smells nutty and turns light brown.

  7. Add water (1 ½ cups), and chicken powder (1 tsp) and stir and scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spatula to get all the flavors off.

  8. Add a dash of soy sauce ( dash) for color.

  9. Stir in canned mushrooms (4 oz) and let them simmer for a few minutes.

  10. Add burger patties back into the pan, cover, and let it simmer until the patties are fully cooked.

  11. Taste if it needs salt ( to taste).

  12. Serve immediately with steamed white rice.

Notes

  • I made 4 thick patties. Searing them in the pan for 2 minutes on both sides doesn’t cook them all the way through. They will finish cooking in the mushroom gravy.
  • Canned mushrooms are a must for this dish. But yes, you can use fresh mushrooms too.Add salt in the end if needed.
  • A few dashes of soy sauce give the mushroom gravy a nice brown color.
